9th European Symposium for the protection of the Night Sky

Preventie Lichthinder vzw goes to Armagh. Yes you have read this correct. You may not have expected it, but the reason will become clear as you read on.

Each year the European Symposium for the Protection of the Night Sky takes place. The Symposium is the yearly highlight for anyone who has something to do with light pollution. You can find motivated people of similar organizations elsewhere in Europe, including scientists who study the effects of light pollution on humans, animals and plants or our stars, representatives from the lighting industry, governments ... It is a two day event in which many interesting lectures and discussions on light pollution take place. Some other activities take place as well. As members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw are certainly involved in these issues, it's obvious to participate at the Symposium.

The ninth edition this year takes place in Armagh. Therefore Preventie Lichthinder vzw organizes a trip to Armagh. The symposium will be held from Thursday, September 17 till Saturday, September 19 in the Market Place Theater and Arts Center in the historic center of the Northern Irish city of Armagh. For Prevention Lichthinder vzw this symposium is an important value for all its members. Who participated the past few years will surely testify. Therefore, the association will actively support the participation in the symposium in two ways:

• organize a formula so members can participate;
• contribute to the fees of the members. Preventie Lichthinder vzw takes 110 euros of the cost on its account, so members enjoy a discount in participation in this unique event.

As an environmental association we think it is important that the activities we organize are CO2 neutral. That's why in our offer the full CO2 compensation of travel is included. Below we give in detail what the offer for the trip.

• Departure on Thursday 17 September at 19.00 pm from the airport of Brussels South (Charleroi). We'll fly with Ryan Air.
• Arrival at Dublin Airport (Ireland) at 19.25 pm (local time).
• Transport by car to Armagh (Northern Ireland), expected arrival around 21.25 pm (local time).
• We stay 3 nights at the Mall View House at a 10 minutes walk from the Market Place Theater, based on 2-persons bedrooms. Preventie Lichthinder vzw takes care of the breakfast.
• Participation in the symposium.
• Participation in other activities:
  
  • Visit to the Armagh Observatory and Armagh Planetarium;
  • Friday, September 18: trip to the Beagmore stone circles with BBQ;
  • Saturday, September 19: conference dinner.
• Sunday, September 20: there is still room for visiting Armagh and / or excursions in the area.
• Sunday 20 September at 19.50 pm (local time) flight back to Brussels South (Charleroi) with Ryan Air. We arrive around 22.30 pm

Meals on site or any visits on Sunday are not included in the price.
The local organising comite of the Symposium gives also a discount for members of IDA. So we can offer following prices:

Members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw who are also members of IDA.	180 euros
Members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw and non-member of IDA, but becoming a IDA member (including IDA membership).	210 euros
Members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw and non-member of IDA and not becoming IDA member.	190 euros
Non-members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw, who are members of IDA.	290 euros
Non-members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw and non-member of IDA, but becoming a IDA member (including IDA membership).	320 euros
Non-members of Preventie Lichthinder vzw and non-member of IDA and not becoming IDA member.	300 euros
Partners of members can join as well. This can be for the price of non-members, without participation in the symposium. The other activities on Friday and Saturday are included in the price. During the hours of the symposium, the partnes are free to do what they want. The partner programm costs:	270 euros

Who wants to participate in the symposium with a longer stay in Ireland or Northern Ireland can come as well. You have to arrange your local transport and accommodation on the spot. Send an e-mail with the exact dates of departure and arrival and whether or not you're member and IDA member, and we make a price proposal.

Those who want to come should book before August 1, 2009! Later we can not offer the same price as prices for the flights then increased by subsequent booking.

Registration for members is only secured after payment of a deposit of 50 euros on account of Preventie Lichthinder vzw: 733-0234822-15. Non-members pay a deposit of 75 euros. Who wants to become IDA member or member of Preventie Lichthinder vzw would be charged with the membership fees of 15, 30 or 45 euros together with the deposit. The final bill follows in September.

The Board is confident in this way to give you the opportunity to participate in an event on light pollution not to miss for a democratic price. We hope on massive subscriptions.

You're only registered if the due payment of 50, 65, 75, 80, 95 or 105 euros is payed on behalf of Preventie Lichthinder vzw.
